  • Laser Eye Surgery - This aims to improve vision without glasses or contacts. To do this laser eye surgery involves reshaping the cornea to change the focusing of the eye. It can treat short-sightedness, long-sightedness and astigmatism. The two types of laser vision correction are Flap-based treatments (LASIK) and Surface treatments (LASEK/TransPRK).

  • ICL Implants - This is a method of correcting near-sightedness, far-sightedness or astigmatism by implanting a refractive lens in the eye. It is implanted via a key-hole incision in the eye behind the iris.

  • PhotoTherapeutic Keratectomy - This is a type of laser eye surgery used for many problems affecting the superficial layers of the cornea. PTK can remove scars, opacities or treat painful recurrent erosions.

  • Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE) / Cataract Surgery - If you have a cataract, or if your eyes are not suitable for laser correction, you may need a lens replacement. A standard monofocal lens implant will correct your distance vision as clearly as possible. Multifocal lenses help with near vision, although you may still require glasses for some tasks.

Cataract Surgery in London

Cataract Surgery in London

If you are in need of Cataract Surgery in London, you can have complete peace of mind by choosing Daniel Gore.

Mr Gore works at Moorfields Eye Hospital London, a world-renowned institute for ophthalmic care. He specialises in advanced cataract surgery amongst other treatments and is an expert who provides a service tailored to you with great care.

A replacement lens can be required if your eye lens becomes cloudy, or if your eyes are not suitable for laser correction. Mr Gore provides Refractive Lens Exchange or Cataract Surgery in London with the latest monofocal, toric, and multifocal lenses.

London Cataract Surgery Lenses

When it comes to cataract surgery, the choice of lens is crucially important. Daniel Gore will discuss with you which of the latest lenses is best for your unique needs.

A monofocal lens implant will correct your distance vision as clearly as possible. A toric monofocal lens can be implemented to also treat astigmatism. Monofocal lenses will help to improve intermediate and near vision, but glasses will likely be needed for comfortable reading.

Trifocal lenses can be used to target near, intermediate and distant vision. Four in five patients will not need glassess with trifocal lenses.

Extended Depth of Focus (EDoF) is the next generation technology in multifocal lens design, allowing you to see clearly at far and intermediate distances. They provide greater spectacle independence than monofocal lenses, with fewer visual side effects compared to trifocal lenses. You can read our cataract surgery page for more details on the lenses offered.

Does Cataract Surgery hurt?

The procedure is completely painless due to the use of anaesthetic drop to numb the eye. Furthermore sedation can also be given intravenously to help you relax during the operation if needs be. General anaesthetic is very rarely necessary.

Are there risks with Cataract Surgery? Cataract surgery is safe overall:

  • 1 in 1000 patients may experience an infection or bleeding in the eye.

  • 1 in 100 patients may require a second operation - this may be repositioning or

exchange of the lens, clearing lens fragments from the eye or repairing a retinal detachment.

page1image49286144 page1image49285376 page1image49283648

● 1 in 5 patients may develop posterior capsule opacification (PCO) - a thickened membrane behind the new lens that can develop months or years after the operation. This can cause the vision to become blurred and may require a quick out-patient laser procedure (YAG laser capsulotomy) to restore clarity.

The surgeon’s experience and expertise is crucial in minimisng risks. Daniel Gore currently has a PCR (posterior capsular rupture) rate, the key index for safety in RLE & cataract surgery, of 0.62 %*, compared with the 1.5% national average and the Royal College of Ophthalmologists’ benchmark of 2.0%.

Are Cataract Lens Implants Permanent?

Cataract lens implants are designed to be a permanent solution. It is recommended that you keep getting regular health checks with your optician. Up to 1 in 5 patients may experience a deterioration in vision months or years after the surgery. This is posterior capsule opacification (PCO) and is normally treated successfully with a simple laser producer in the clinic. For more information you can see more FAQs on the cataract surgery page.
